Jeff Brock portraitIt was inevitable that Jeffrey Lee Brock's vocation would involve fine art.

The New Mexico based sculptor of precious stone and bronze was raised in Michigan by wonderfully creative parents. His mother was a spinner / weaver and basket maker and his father, a designer and builder of custom motorcycles.

"By my nature and environment, I've been drawn to and inspired by all forms of creativity and art, throughout my life," Brock says.

Jeff majored in fine art and won awards and honors in state and local art shows. His earlier favored medium was carved exotic woods. His first 'Art Heroes' were Henry Moore and Vincent Van Gogh.

"Moore," states Jeff, "for his incredible sense of power, in simple sculpted form. Van Gogh for his passion for emotion through brilliant use of color."

Jeff's lifelong study and interest in fine art, cultural symbology and archeology are brilliantly fused in his latest body of work.

"I've come to favor the age old sacred spirit and magic of mediums like gemstone, fossil ivory and coral. In my 'Soulstice Stones', I wish to communicate positive, hopeful concepts with the inherent beauty of natural mediums."

Jeff & Star's Spiritual Liaisons

Jeff & Star with collaborative workJeff also co-creates a series of collaborative mixed media works called "Spiritual Liaisons" with his wife, renown bronze sculptor Star Liana York.

After working together for years on Star's bronze monuments, Jeff and Star have found a shared vision.

Constantly charging and recharging each other's creativity with everything from studies of primitive cultures to their love of animals and nature, a collaboration was a natural evolution.

Influenced by the artisans of Stone Age tribes worldwide, coupled with a mutual affinity for animals, and inspired by early effigy, fetish, and ceremonial artistry, the two combined their vision to create unique sculptures.

Star and Jeff are listening . . . and learning . . . and gratefully sharing.
